But the data says otherwise.

Elon Musk recently said that Tesla’s declining sales in Europe are due to the region’s “pretty weak” auto market, noting that the problem affects all manufacturers. However, recent data shows the opposite – the electric car market in Europe is growing, while Tesla’s sales are falling much more than others.

In April, the European electric car market showed a record growth of 28 percent compared to last year. Despite this, Tesla sales in the EU countries fell by almost half – by 49 percent. The trend continues in May. For example, in the UK, electric car sales increased by 28 percent, and Tesla lost 45 percent of sales compared to last year.

The decline is particularly noticeable in Germany, where Elon Musk has drawn criticism for his support for the far-right AfD party in recent elections. Only 1,210 Teslas were sold there in May, down 36 percent from a year earlier. The German electric car market has grown by almost 45 percent. Tesla has a market share of just 0.5 percent.
