US President Donald Trump has proposed increasing the country’s defense spending by 13% to $1.01 trillion in the 2026 fiscal year. This follows from the draft federal budget published by the White House.
The proposal is contained in a document that reflects key priorities of the Trump administration , including strengthening military capabilities, cutting domestic spending and refocusing funding on “critical” areas.
Among other things, the project provides for a significant redistribution of funds in favor of the space program. In particular, more than $7 billion is proposed for NASA’s lunar mission , the goal of which is to beat China to returning a man to the Moon. Another $1 billion is planned in the form of new investments in programs aimed at preparing for a human landing on Mars.
The document emphasizes that restoring US leadership in space exploration is seen as an element of national security strategy.
